Cheese Fondue and White Wine
Cheese fondue is a wonderful comfort food for a date night. It's creamy, rich, and indulgent and makes for great dipping for your favorite foods like bread, veggies, or fruits. Pair a cheesy fondue dish along with one of these fine wines for a cheesy and delicious date night.
Wine Pairing: When it comes to pairing wine with cheese fondue, you can't go wrong with a crisp, refreshing white wine. Here are a few great options:
- Loire Chenin Blanc: This wine's zesty acidity makes it a fantastic partner for fondue, enhancing the flavors of both the cheese and your dipping items.
- Chasselas: A classic wine choice, especially from Switzerland, Chasselas is often enjoyed with fondue in its native region and offers a light, crisp profile that complements the dish perfectly.
- Chardonnay: Known as a main grape variety in Champagne, Chardonnay's buttery texture complements the richness of the cheese, especially when paired with a soft, creamy brie.
- Riesling: If you prefer a slightly sweeter touch, a Riesling pairs wonderfully with cheeses like Bûcheron, offering a balance of sweetness and acidity to cut through the richness of the fondue.
- Chablis: A classic option for cheese fondue, Chablis (made from Chardonnay) has a distinct minerality that pairs well with the creamy texture of melted cheese.
Chocolate Fondue and Sparkling or Sweet Red WIne
Chocolate fondue makes a fondue date night even sweeter. There’s something extra romantic about dipping strawberries, marshmallows, and brownies into melted, dripping chocolate. It’s indulgent, sweet, and the perfect way to share a special moment together. See what wine you should get for your chocolate fondue experience.
Wine Pairing: There are options for a bubbly, refreshing flavor that complements the sweetness without clashing, as well as options for a richer taste that enhances the depth of the chocolate.
- Prosecco or Brut Champagne: Adds a bubbly, refreshing element that complements the sweetness without clashing. The crisp, effervescent nature of these wines cuts through the richness of the chocolate, creating a delightful balance.
- Port or Zinfandel: Pairs beautifully with dark chocolate fondue. These wines bring bold fruit flavors and a touch of sweetness, enhancing the deep, complex flavors of the chocolate while offering a smooth, velvety finish.
Meat or Broth Fondue with a Medium-Bodied Red Wine
If you prefer a more savory fondue, meat (like beef or chicken) or broth fondues are a great choice. These hearty fondues give you a warm, satisfying meal to share, making it perfect for an intimate evening together.
Wine Pairing: Red wines shine when paired with savory meat fondues. Here are a few red options to complement the richness of the broth or meat:
- Pinot Noir: A light, smooth red wine that won’t overpower the flavors of your meat fondue. It’s an excellent choice if you're serving delicate meats like chicken or fish.
- Merlot: Known for its smooth, round tannins and fruity notes, Merlot is a versatile wine that pairs well with richer meats, making it ideal for beef or lamb fondues.
- Cabernet Sauvignon: This bold, full-bodied red works best with heartier meats and broths, providing a deep, structured flavor that stands up to the richness of your dish.
- Zinfandel: If you’re serving meat fondues with a slightly spicy broth, a Zinfandel brings bold fruitiness and spice to the table, making it a lively partner for a variety of meats.
