Ellen Warren writes in her Shopping Adviser column what tools Chicago chef stars can't cook without. Paul Kahan said, "In our kitchen at the restaurant we call them 'super peelers.' The company is Kuhn Rikon. They're razor sharp [for] peeling anything, even super tough root vegetables, celery root. Shaving cheese...It's a great tool."

A good peeler is an essential tool, and luckily you don't have to pay a premium for it. The one pictured here, made for right- and left-handed use, has a high-impact plastic handle and works better than any other fancy peeler out there.
